WordPress vs Joomla vs Drupal

WordPress

Above 42% use.

If you are not an IT person, then given that:

  • many people for social sciences learn and use it
  • it is easy
  • it has many plugins and themes, and many FREE with limited functionality
  • it is very popular
  • many blogs, forums, lessons help to learn
  • it is the USA way of thinking

it is good for all

Also you can write code, this is for IT persons

If you are IT person, you can even develop apps and use WordPress as a PHP Framework, like CodeIgiter or Laravel, and more.

You can write plugins and Themes, according to your needs.

WordPress also can  operate as multisite app.

Joomla

This is more advanced, and

  • This is for more heavy projects
  • With less plugins and themes.
  • More difficult
  • It is the English way of thinking
  • Less popular
  • Depending on what you do, you may pay more.

It is good for more advanced users

Joomla can be operate as multisite solution.

Drupal

  • This can be used for small or bigger sites
  • it is most secure
  • it needs a lot of time to learn
  • It is more expensive in time and resources
  • It can be used for very big projects

It is for most advanced users.

Drupal can be used as PHP Framework.

For  multisite solutions with site generators are not bad, but you must  have backup of your data. These solutions are easier because you pay and other work for you, you earn time but you pay, you do not need to learn a lot, others work for you..

If the central serves stops to work and no backup or even with backup, how you are going to work, are you going to be able to migrate your data to another platform ?

For me the best use WP, Joomla, Drupal, or even Typo and more, where the data is yours AND the platform is open source, In This case you are the BOSS of data and you ARE using a FREE platform.
